He is homesick for the city streets, in spite of the kindness of the doctor and his wife in Rhode Island. The story traces his conversion from a surly street urchin to a lad worthy the name his master and mistress gave him. Sympathetically and realistically done, with plenty of incident and excitement, and a sound emotional content.
