GENTLE ALBATROSS

University president George Oldham is missing, and detective Woodfield, together with sylphet sidekick Mercy--the albatross--presume he's dead. Indeed he is, and the pair run around campus contacting George's opium-inhaling wife, her Oriental lover, a brain research scientist, a suddenly wealthy secretary, etc. Not a mod quad, and you'll soon tire of the nouveau-hip dialogue, which is the book's real albatross.
