A manual of this kind which attempts to reach both sexes has two obvious disadvantages: (1) while many problems pertain to all teenagers, some sections (e.g. exercises, hair care) make selective reading a necessity; (2) the guide is not as thorough or precise as one of the same length specifically for boys or girls might have been. The most detailed instructions presented relate to diet and exercise, while only brief comment is made on hair and nail care, teeth, posture, etc. The audience interest as far as boys are concerned is questionable; at an age when the ulging muscles promised by Atlas are in demand, the muscle-toning exercises will seem sissified (although, granted, they are worthwhile). And, though much applicable information is set down here, girls will want more step-by-step directions prepping for the pin-up degree.
