Modern fairy tales, which everyone who liked Elizabeth Goudge's delightful Island Magic and City of Bells, will enjoy. Some of them start out to be realism and somehow, somewhere a twist of faerie creeps in. She does it so enchantingly that it is quite forgivable. The stories are thinly plotted, but rich in qualities of romance and atmosphere. For the special flavor of the volume, read A Shepherd and Shepherdess, Rescue on the Island and The Bee and the Bonnet.
