RETURN TO JAPAN by Elizabeth Gray Vining

Email this review

Windows for the Crown Prince was Elizabeth Vining's story of her experience as tutor to Japan's heir apparent. At the time of his marriage (1957) she was one of the very few foreigners invited to attend the ceremony, and since this date coincided with an international PEN conference she seized the opportunity to accept. This is the story of that ""return to Japan"" and is full of the adventures and the delights of her experience. It might be interesting to read this in conjunction with Junket to Japan, and The Sun and the Birch, both of which deal with the area of experience and background, paralleling some of the period Mrs. Vining covers.
