Good tale, blending character and incident with an authentic background of the French-Indian wars, of young Washington at the time of the Great Meadow disaster. An orphan lad, brought up by a trader, versed in the ways of the woods by an Indian comrade, is with the British forces. Washington becomes interested in his Virginia ancestry, and succeeds in persuading him to go back with him to trace down his family. Sympathetic picture of that period in Washington's life.
