Elizabeth Gray can tell a good story. She can also write biography (remember Young Walter Scott?). Here she has a chance to combine both gifts in a biography of a man whose life was full of romance, adventure and conflict -- conflict in his own conscience, conflict with the traditions of his aristocratic family, conflict with the rulers of his country. And yet, his yearnings for peace and repose made him a Quaker -- in the time when to be a Quaker meant persecution. There is much that will be new and this should make this a ""must"" for supplementary reading in American history. Adults who want a readable life of William Penn will find this meets their needs.
