KIRKUS REVIEW

A quiet story of nearly unselfish love, a romance which brought five years of happiness and fulfilment to a man and woman twenty years apart, she the older, in a marriage that succeeded while success was imperative and that ended before the man knew the spirit was gone. ""The loving heart"" is symbolic of little, dumpy Susan Porter, who had never known passionate love, and who found it, too late, through the youth to whom she had restored faith and happiness and ambition -- and who gave her five years of joy. Her death freed him for the marriage with Honor Spencer, schoolgirl grown up into his ideal mate. An unimportant book, perhaps, but a warmly human story, with a nostalgic backward look to England between the wars.
