A new Meg story (Meg of Heron's Nest- 1961) and a good mystery for 3rd and 4th grade level. Meg had come to Pigeon Island, Maine, to visit her brother Allen, and was puzzled by the locked barn room. Meg's new friends, the Greenslaws, who were camping on a neighboring island, suggested that the room was filled with stolen goods. The Greenslaws were even watching Pigeon Island through their binoculars; why their concern? One night the mystery is solved with the help of Repulsive the cat, Crow, Meg's pet, and Meg. How credible the solution is -- with the capture of a gang of thieves and the restoration of the island to its rightful owners- will bother young readers not at all. Good adventure full of pleasant details of Maine island life.
