KIRKUS REVIEW

Those who know Elizabeth Lawrence's A Southern Garden or The Little Bulbs, will look forward to this record of her adventures in extending garden delights through the winter. While North Carolina provides a gentler climate- there are many suggestions applicable to harsher climates. Elizabeth Lawrence is scientific in her knowledge. She knows her varieties and their specific characteristics, whether she writes of late and early flowering trees and shrubs, of camellias, of winter roses, bulbs, berry bearing shrubs that attract birds, flowers and greens for household decoration, her own keen enthusiasm is evident. The 26 illustrations are by another knowledgeable gardener-Caroline Dorman. An appendix provides A Guide to Winter Bloom, a list of sources of plants, suggestions for winter reading, and a Hardiness Zone map.
