CONSEQUENCE OF CRIME

The standard mix--several murders (one of a budding TV star), rapes, robberies, a little white-slavery and forgery--for the Los Angeles Police Department's Ivor and Sue Maddox. The distinction here in the Egan-Linington-Shannon oeuvre is the agreeably placid home-life of the Maddoxes; unlike the Mendozas of the Dell Shannon series, this couple is spared sugary domestic detailing--which means a somewhat greater degree of verisimilitude. Otherwise: absolutely by-the-book, with frenetic overlapping casework sure to satisfy procedural buffs and almost no one else.
