As Toby helped Aunt Bee to open the house in the country for summer, he met many little creatures:- a mole, a mouse, a bat and a rabbit. But each one scurried off -- too busy to play with Toby. But after the house was all cleaned, out in the woodpile, Toby found a mother cat and her two kittens -- who were more than happy to frolic with him. Ronni Solbert's illustrations are a little unsure. The colors are uninspired -- and the figures seem formle. A brief verse is devoted to each creature the boy encounters in the musty, dusty house. The repetitive action of the story has appeal but the total impression of the book is lacking in effect. Side sewn. Firmly stitched.
