An engaging story that six and seven year olds will enjoy read aloud- and that third and fourth graders can read to themselves. A pet donkey, beloved by the children who own him, is taken into the house and taught the elements of living in a house. Stiggles copes with problems of going to bed, cleaning up breakfast at the table and the intricacies of human living. But he misses his poor sister Mabel and the children search all of London to find her Fre-war London may prove somewhat confusing to American children, but the book has distinct charm and engaging illustrations in spia and red by Margery Colman.
