At Rest-and-be-thankful in upper New York, the ancestral home now occupied by grumpy Uncle Enos, Peggy Grahame meets several whimsical ghosts who unfold the eventful history of the old house. There was Richard Grahame, a colonel in Washington's army, assigned to capture dashing, foxy Peaceable Drummond Sherwood, the incorrigible British officer whose raids and daring were disrupting the area. Peggy's ancestor, Barbara Grahame, unfolds the story of her romance with Peaceable, a chronicle of heroism and humor. Peggy herself finds drama and romance when she meets Pat, a historical scholar, and discovers why Uncle Enos disliked him. Fresh, off-beat, a romantic fantasy done with some skill --it is hard to say whether this will appeal because of its predication on real ghosts.
