Pure porn on the order of The Story of O, set in New York instead of Roissy. But bruises are bruises, and the pain's the same whatever the language. Sadomasochism (in this case, a master-slave routine with sexual furbelows that involve handcuffs and masseurs and hotel rooms at the Chelsea) has only so many kinks. Here, none are ever ironed out. The ""heroine,"" who leaves her nine-to-five job every day for nine weeks to enter the netherworld of her sadistic lover, has a nervous breakdown at the end (too much of a good thing, we're given to understand). Her final word is a complaint: she's healthy now, after a stint in the bin; but sex has lost its magic. Ouch.
