Sequel to High Tide At Noon, this continues the story of Bennett's Island, Maine lobster-fishing community, as Joanna Bennett, after the death of her romantic weakling of a first husband, returns to the Island with Nils, whom she marries primarily to get back to the place she loves. Joanna brings others back to resettle the Island -- institutes petticoat government over the men in their trouble with the ing Fowlers, with lobster pots, with bait, until finally, too driving, too possessive, for Mils, Mils leaves her. Joanna, humbled for the first time, realizes she loves him more than her property. Again an authentic regional flavor with honest portrayals, though as a story, it lac the warmth of the first book.
