This is a difficult book to place. In format -- type of illustration-size, it looks like a picture story book. In text matter, it is definitely of the 9-10-11 level. It might be used as a book to read aloud to slightly younger children, for it is dramatically written, an accurate account of the work and background of the fire department. There's the history, much of the working and equipment of the New York Fire Department, written with the assistance of the Fire College staff and Captain Winter of Hook and Ladder 3. Vigorous and exciting lithographs by the author. A city child's book primarily, but with much that small boys everywhere would enjoy.
