A HOUSE FOR EMILY by Elizabeth Reeves

A HOUSE FOR EMILY

By

Pub Date: Feb. 10th, 1940
Publisher: Farrar & Rinehart

This for the overdomesticated homebodies, a prisitinely pure piece about Emily, her John, and the home and family they build together. Richmond, the start of a law practice, a fast growing young family, the postponement of the home they longed to build --and then, on the eventual achievement of their dream, John's death and Emily almost a victim of the sentimental loyalty of her children, who are on the verge of abandoning their own dreams to give her fulfillment of hers. A bit dated, but there is a message implicit in the story which gives it significance for a wide market. Conservative rentals -- certain types of public library readers.
