A vital subject presented in more or less fictionized moments in the lives of the individuals who made medical history. Important advances in modern medicine, in , surgery, anasthesia, treatment of anemia, X-ray and so on, are dramatized in personal biographical approach. The book nerves a definite purpose in introducing Junior High School readers to the problems of modern medicine, but the method used gives an overall effect that seems rather glib and superficial, and that lacks the sustained drama that, for instance, Paul DeKruif conveys. However -- so far as I know -- this is an unexplored field for this age group.
