INSLOW HOMER

This report on an American artist would not be out of place in adult collections. Homer, one of the youngest artists to be made a national academician, was famous in his own lifetime. He first became well known for his sketches that appeared regularly in Harper's Weekly and which were made from the front lines of the Civil War. The author explains Homer's concern with the use of color and the play of light in his canvases. There are no color reproductions in this book, but for every page of text there is a facing picture and these were so well selected that the black and white conveys the idea of the color and the techniques employed.
