SPICES AND HERBS AROUND THE WORLD by Elizabeth S. Hayes

SPICES AND HERBS AROUND THE WORLD

By

Pub Date: Dec. 1st, 1961
Publisher: Doubleday

The author has collected legends, historical data, and information about the cultivation and uses of herbs and spices from a wide variety of sources, starting (chronologically) with and criminating with contemporary handbooks on herbs and spices. Each herb and spice is presented on its own with a line drawing, a good of informative and entertaining text, and one or two unusual recipes in which it plays a crucial role. The herb and spice charts with general suggestions for their uses are nothing out of the ordinary, and can be found in many good cookbooks. The really unusual thing here is a ""Herb Growing Chart"" which gives extensive information about the cultivation, growth, and habits of a great many herbs which can thrive successfully in home gardens. Not a rockbook, stickily speaking, but a lovely gift for the herb gardener.
