THE LUCK OF POKEY BLOOM

Pokey Bloom's luck seems to consist of winning a transistor radio in one of the many contests she enters--although what she had been chiefly concentrating on winning, as instructed by a lady on the radio who said you'll win if you wish hard enough, was the house of her dreams--complete with her own soda fountain, a dungeon for her stereotypical teenage brother Gordon, and no bathtub with feet like the one her artist mother finds charming but which father, a teacher, grumbles about fixing. Besides the contest Pokey is concerned with Gordon's strange affinity for the health food store, which little George next door thinks he is casing for a caper though he's really just stuck on the girl who works there. In the end Gordon is over his crush and out of the dungeon; somehow the transistor radio comes as a tonic for the whole family. A trifle.
