KIRKUS REVIEW

A dragnet of the year's talent in the short mystery story field turns up some new faces as well as old hands and provides an omnium gatherum of many moods which range from somber violence to whimsy. Steve Frazee's prize winning My Brother Down There is a reflective and uneasy contemplation of ""the line which runs from crime to punishment""; second prizes go to Stanley Ellin for his story of a man's defense of an unknown woman which leads to her betrayal; to Roy Vickers, A.H.Z. Carr, and Lillian de la Torre's Johnson and Boswelliana. And Eleazar Lipsky, Charlotte Armstrong, Dorothy Salisbury Davis and James Jaffe complete a cast of experienced entertainers.
