KIRKUS REVIEW

A bouquet garni (presumably from magazine appearances) includes blackmail and embezzlement, kidnapping, suicide, and of course murder. A physician's thermometer is also an instrument of death; a Harvard dean deals in spoonerisms and keys the answer to a rare book fraud; a miser's ""cache of cash"" is unstashed; a black ledger listing narcotics distributors is smuggled safely to Washington by Ellery Queen, who is not above a certain amount of chicanery himself. Assorted shorts, for the old potentate's potential.
