HERE COMES THE SHOWBOAT

By

Publisher: Nelson

Lively story of a brother and sister who live in the swampy low country of North Carolina. The story of how the children make up words of their own to an old folk melody to enter in a showboat contest- of the visit of the conjure man- of the Negro cook and how he helped the children build their song- all afford amusement, entertainment and considerable information on the rhythms, cadences and composition of a song. This is one of the best books out of the south and dealing with the south that we've had for some time. And one of Ellis Credle's most successful books. The relationship between white children and Negro servants is kept on just the right key. The story is fun.
