JANEY'S SHOES by Ellis Credle

JANEY'S SHOES

By

Publisher: Grosset & Dunlap

This hasn't the directness of most of Credle's books, but many children love the might-be-true stories of the past, told as this grandmother tells three little mountain children in North Carolina of the time she came across the trail, barefoot in the snow, after a month coming up from the foothills with oxen and a covered wagon. It's a story with a moral -- but not too obviously so -- for the children of today are apt to take for granted the ease in getting from place to place, and the comfort of proper shoes and clothes, food and shelter.
