KIRKUS REVIEW

How it was from the best of what we've had the sense to preserve: architecture, furniture, utensils, personal objects, toys (unfortunately such sites as Faneuil Hall and Boston's fine Old State House could not be included, given the obvious incursions of the 20th century -- i.e., telephone poles, surrounding skyscrapers). Things never were as pristine as depicted here, to be sure, but, then, that's what nostalgia's all about.
