THE CHIANGS OF CHINA

There is widespread interest in many quarters concerning the importance of the element of Christianity in the amazing history of the Soongs and the Chiangs. This brief biography of a family is done from that angle. It is the saga of the Soongs, with their ramifications, concentrating in the final chapters on the Chiangs. Romance, adventure-and throughout the emphasis on the part Christianity has played in determining or at least coloring --decisions, points of view. A good piece of reporting, substance in brief compass, but written with no particular originality or sparkle. Perhaps the most interesting part of the book, for its special audience, is that dealing with Chiang Kai Shek's period of detention following his kidnapping, with extracts from his own record of its spiritual experience during that time. Unattractive format.
