A WOMEN'S GUIDE TO EARNING A GOOD LIVING

Elmer Winter, who is the head of Manpower, Inc., a placement organization which now has 200 offices the country over, has surveyed here most of the personal satisfactions (the working woman is usually a more contented one) and job considerations for those who want to work part time, full time, or just some of the time. With introductory advice on how to assess your qualifications, or to secure vocational guidance, he classifies seven types of working women-their ""problems, potentials and prospects""; the working student, young unmarried woman, married- without children, married with preschool children (here the emphasis is on staying home most of the time), married with older children, the ""mature"" woman- a stigma now being subdued, and the woman alone (widowed, etc.). Looking for a job and applying for one, the letter, the interview, the portfolio, etc. and a brief evaluation of some 59 fields (their values and limitations- economically and otherwise) complete a commonsense guide based on the common experience of many, many women. It should help anyone with tentative, apprehensive ideas about herself, about what she wants to do- or can do.
