THE MOONSHINE WAR

"Son" Martin ran the kind of still that got raided twice a month. . . by a thirsty congenial cop and happy deputies. Then an ex-Army buddy turns up who's turned Federal revenuer and who knows Son's daddy hid 150 barrels of prime aged whiskey somewhere in the vicinity. The revenuer sets out to steal it for himself and hires a bunch of seedy bootleggers (led by a perverted dentist and a young psychopath) to help get it. The gang terrorizes the country intimidating Son's neighbors in the hope that they'll help pressure the information out of him. Finally there's the biggest shoot-out since the O.K. corral. . . all of which might look more O.K. on screen than in print where there's been better fussin' and feudin' for more tolerable reasons.
