Like an oft-told family legend, this little episode involving a girl, a mired filly and an awesome Indian, moves inevitably to a direct conclusion. Sara Ann Finch, 11, became anxious over Lucky, her brother's little filly, when Indians removed the fence her father had erected to keep him from wandering. As she had feared, Lucky soon strayed into the forest where Sara found him stuck in the mud of a creek, miles from home. For Sara to summon the fierce savage nearby to help the horse from the mud took all her courage. After a night spent in the Indian camp, Sara lost her fears and Mr. Finch decided not to rebuild the fence.
