FAIRING WEATHER

Two little girls have everyday adventures on a Maine island and though both profit from their experiences, a sentimental watering down makes the story a bland dish. Nine year old Ann Marsh whose home is on Bleak Island, hates nosey ""summer people"". It is a resentment she immediately transfers to Betsy, an Ohio girl who comes to stay with her grandmother Mrs. Gates. Ann thinks Betsy is a ""scairdy cat"". But through Mrs. Gates' stories about the Island, picnics and other activities, a friendship is formed. Ann realizes her prejudice is foolish and Betsy proves herself by rescuing a kitten in a storm. Silver-lined.
