DR. JOHNSON'S PRAYERS

While every reader of Bonwell knows that Samuel Johnson was a devout man, few realize that he was the author of genuine classics of devotion. Johnson has apparently intended to complete a book of devotions, and kept writing prayers throughout his life, present clearly and fully the ideas which Catholic theology holds of Mary, her relationship to God, to Jesus and to the believing soul. This is, of course, a book by a Catholic for Catholics, but Protestant readers can gain from it a clear conception of the lefty eminence in which Mary stands in the eyes of the Catholic world and the reasons therefore.
