The versatile mind of Elton Trueblood has again produced a most useful book for the average Christian layman who seeks a thought-provoking, devotional approach to some solid Bible reading. Here is the Gospel according to St. Mark, freed from the fetters of artificial chapter and verse divisions. He has apportioned it conveniently and plausibly into 60 sections, each with half a dozen pointed paragraphs in Dr. Trueblood's well-known style. He who reads St. Mark may have guidance from one who combines adequate critical knowledge with a passion for The Person whose life brought this Gospel into being. Sometimes, as in the section dealing with divorce, or again that dealing with the Eucharist, we may feel there is much more to be said, but all in all, the book places before us the solid challenge of the Living Christ. After Easter will not be too late to put this on your reading list as a grand guide to those who would like to understand Our Lord better by reading, day by day, the facts of His life.
