THE COMPANY OF THE COMMITTED

The popular Professor of Philosophy at Earlham College is concerned with the strengthening of the life of the individual, and the magnificent potential inherent in the Church. The redemption of man cannot be done alone without the influence of the fellowship, nor can the fellowship be effective without the militant activity of the committed individual. He feels that the Church's emphasis today fails to realize the true purpose. Beautiful buildings, active youth groups, worship and organization are vital only if they touch everyday living. To achieve this, the true Christian must not simply ""go to church""; he must be part of it, not as a Sunday Christian but as a militant soldier of Christ through decisive penetration not withdrawal. The validity of this penetration is to be found in the one, constant, overwhelming principle emphasized by Christ-love. When love is infused into society, the Church will be effective. Trueblood's writing is lucid, logical. It contains a simple, powerful progression which makes it interesting to read and convincing to ponder.
