A study of the magician personality in history, legend and religion, this traces the supernatural origins of various beliefs, and the man behind ""the myth of the magus"". From the medicine man of primitive times, through Zoroaster, Pythagoras, Moses and Christ, to Redivivus, Saint Germain, Cagliostro, and- more debatably- Rasputin and Mme. Blavatsky of the moderns, these are a few of many used to exemplify the Magus tradition. The Faust legend of course plays an important part in this cycle. A serious study, in a highly specialized field, which still includes some entertaining and original writing.
