KIRKUS REVIEW

A balanced, just, comprehensive biography of Poe; brief outline of his inheritance and background, childhood and early education, and the development at the University and at West Point of the Jekyll and Hyde aspects of his strange nature. The biographer has unearthed a vast amount of information, and his material is carefully documented. The emphasis -- in spite of the title -- is not on his love life, except as an intergral part of the whole. It's a long book, and one keyed to the Poe enthusiast rather than the casual reader.
