AFFAIR

A story of love in the depression, of two young people driven into strange channels by present conditions. ""The Affair"" which was supposed to be glamorous, turns out badly for Kay. Independent, not wishing marriage with Jimmy, who is jobless, she manages to have an abortion, and eventually they admit that love has grown cold and they go their separate ways. The characters are human enough -- the situation plausible -- but there is a coldness in the presentation that divorces one's sympathy. Further research along the lines of Bad Girl and Nobody Starves -- in the white collar class of the unemployed. A bit anti-social for public libraries and for the conservative market.
