FRANCIE COMES HOME

...to Jefferson, a small town near Chicago, after the years abroad in Europe (see Francie and Francie Again) and finds problems contingent to the central one of living at home while her widowed father waits the outcome of a lawsuit. Restless and trying not to show it, Francie is thoroughly understood by Aunt Norah, who suggests she get a job in Mrs. Ryan's gift shop. This leads to acquaintance with a strange girl, Chadbourne, whose mother owns a rival gift shop and has employed Bruce Munson to help. With Bruce stealing some of Chadbourne's fire and Chadbourne pining for Bruce, the sparks of romance fly in all directions, ignite in Chicago where Bruce and Francie meet on respective buying trips and where Francie learns Glenn, a former flame, is engaged. When Glenn's girl turns out to be a snob, and Bruce to be a schemer for his own benefit, Francie's way is clear with Glenn. Little more than the emotional side of doing business here and that is superimposed on a standard set of circumstances. Just something for the fans.
