Among them are Helen of Troy, Sappho, Cleopatra, Henry VIII, Nelson and Lady Hamilton, and more often than not Miss Hahn's scrutiny lends a corrosive cynicism to time's illusion. known in the effete Affonso, King of Portugal, whose wife divorced him for non-consummation of the contract; the hermaphroditic Chevalier D'Eon; the African Princess inga; Victoria's Lady of the bedchamber, Flora Chambers whose cancerous liver provoked the speculation of her pregnancy (she was a spinster) etc. Some errant to erotic episodes, in high places, this revives old scandals with a colloquial verve for those who wish to be aroused, rather than instructed or improved. This is not her best.
