A HOUSE FULL OF STRANGERS

The large, rambunctious Quiggs family has inherited the house that Flora, 11, has shared with her grandmother, but on the condition that they'll care for Flora until she is of age. Accustomed to nature walks in the forest, reading, and other solitary activities, Flora considers the Quiggs clan a source of constant intrusions, especially tag-along Missy. Of course, Flora learns what the family can offer her, and what she can offer them; also that, somehow, they need her—a new feeling. Injected into this proven scenario is a quickly set-up, speedily resolved mystery about tree rustlers. Otherwise, the emotions ring true; even at the end, Flora and her new family are a little wary of one another but have high hopes for understanding and eventual respect. A gentle story, sweetly told.
