THE UMBRELLA MAN

By

Publisher: Knopf

Humor and rhythmic tune appeals to small listeners to the story in this book, although the illustrations in color (by the author) seem wooden and unattractive, and not up to her best work. The story itself is successful -- and original. The umbrella man has taken six umbrellas away for repair and then proceeds to mix them up. Grandmother Twitchell gets Jennie's doll's umbrella; Farmer Merryweather a ruffled affair belonging to Grandmother and -- worst of all -- Lady Rosits, circus tightrope walker, is carried right up to the top of the circus tent with a tremendous umbrella belonging to Ike, the pushcart peddlar.
