DRUMS OF MONMOUTH

Mrs. Sterne is one of the most successful blenders of history and fiction and has not failed us in this story of the province of Jersey, strongly Tory in sympathy, and of the little band of workers for liberty in and around Princetown (as it was then called). There is more of history and less of story than in Amarantha Gay, M.D. and The Calico Ball. The central character is young Philip Freneau, little known poet of the Revolution.
