Miss Brook is a disturbingly uneven writer, and this is not top drawer. A very slight little story for Easter, but one that has elements of entertainment for small children whose sense of humor runs to delight in ridiculous situations. The Easter rabbit finding a balloon in the garden blows and blows, in the admiring presence of his friends, and when the balloon carries him up into the air the animals hang on to each other to prevent his going too high- and they all go sailing away. When the balloon bursts they all come down again. The rabbit's curiosity is very childlike, and the result- what a child might think up for himself. The cheerful familiarity of the author's brown and green drawings, and the warm yellow of the jacket and paper on board binding are appealing. Beginning readers may be able to read the large type for themselves.
