Even though the patient died on the table (a bullet by his own hand or the hemostats left in after its removal?) there are lots of postoperative complications along with a fair amount of Hippocratic hush-hush to follow. Still John Putnam Thatcher of the Sloan Guaranty Trust eventually reveals further medical malpractice--a lucrative private drug company. . . . A quiet favorite conceived and written with intelligence.
