JOURNEY TO THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY

A pre-model T memoir tells of Dr. Eastman's youth down on the farm, up in Vermont and back at the turn of the century. It is full of simpler pleasures: haying and blackberrying; the livestock and the horses in particular; singing school and the church choir; village emporia and auctions and the county fair; and all they did, ""et"", were dosed with, and read back then and thar'. Dr. Eastman concludes with a brief account of the farmers' organizations which have grown up since- he is a columnist for the Ithaca Journal and American Agriculturist and has written several books, Eastman's Chestnuts among them.... A box lunch, full of homemade bread and hand churned butter, sandwiched between memories.
