Marum scarum reading for an engaging story of Abijah and Bessie Buckle and the family of six, who carry on the alphabet started by their parents, with I -- J -- K and L in the form of pets. They live on a farm on the banks of the St. Lawrence until the army moves in the takes over for an airfield and ""all those Buckles"" hunt a place to live. In colorful parade they move a tenant house to a vacant lot not far away, much to the horror of the neighbors who are sure they don't like children en masse. Inevitably, the Buckles not only find a real home with room for a constantly expanding alphabet, but make a warm place in the hearts of their neighbors.
