Two newly illustrated stories from Cricket magazine. The Chanukkah Guest is an amusing but unexceptional tale about old Bubba Brayna, who mistakes a blundering bear for the expected rabbi and feeds him all her latkes; Carmi's illustrations are vigorous and attractive, but not outstanding. Of more interest is Four Dollars. . ., a genuinely funny western tall-tale about a debtor who's so reluctant to pay up that he pretends to be dead, leading to a satisfying graveyard scene in which he frightens off bank robbers and becomes a hero--sort of. Rounds illustrates with his usual comic authority.
