LONDON'S RIVER by Eric de Mare

LONDON'S RIVER

This handsome import with engraving quality illustrations might, if you stopped at the title, seem outside American interests and needs. It is, nevertheless, an excellent commercial/social history of London and the Thames -- really as important to a knowledge of our growth and culture as the Nile. Short chapters describe the river, its bridges, its traffic and the activity along its banks from pre-Roman Britain days to the present. Facts tacked down with anecdotes, smooth writing and a good balance between text and pictures.
