TALL SHORT STORIES

A cracking collection of tall stories revises and refines the concept of this term (no affinity with the ""boresome"" Munchausen or Bunyan) and presents some fifty pieces in which incredibility is not the end in itself but humor is almost always a means. And along with the fresh sense of comedy, there may be hyperbole and exaggeration, fantasy- and- from a small group, scientific romance. Namewise and stylewise this is a wonderful assembly-Beerbohm and Saki, Alexander Wollcott and Wolcott Gibbs, de Maupassant and Chekhov, Mark Twain and Stephen Leacock and A. P. Herbert, H. G. Wells and Chesterton, Ray Bradbury, Perelman, Stephen Potter, Max Schulman, and of course John Collier. So that there is more than enough for anyone with a ""leg-pulling habit of mind"", and a taste for fine entertainment.
